With the economy in crisis, it is becoming harder for businesses to stick around and compete. This is also true for current and prospective employees and jobs. The harder the economical crisis hits, the harder it is to find a job. This is extremely true for single mothers who sometimes require an employer to be slightly more flexible with them. A single mother with out a big support circle of on call babysitters, pick up and drop off drivers, and 'can you please' people will undoubtedly have an even harder time obtaining and keeping a job during this crisis. Companies are struggling thereby they are downsizing and only searching for the best employees. Obtaining additional schooling can help a single mother become highly employable.

Obama has increased the amount that low income moms can get for a federal Pell grant. This extra money allows moms the opportunity to borrow less in loans from other sources and helps to reduce the burden of the cost of a higher education. Along with these higher Pell grant amounts, there are scholarships that can be applied for.

These scholarships amounts vary as do the terms. Some of these scholarships can be paid directly to a student while others are sent directly to the school. The excess amount of a scholarship or grant, after the school's tuition is paid, is released to the student. A lot of times, this extra check is highly appreciated and needed by moms. This can be used to help with childcare, clothes, school expenses or transportation along with many other possibilities. Applying for a scholarship for moms is definitely worth the time it takes when you receive notification that your funds will be received shortly.
